7 and 8 December 2017: Awareness program about Medicinal Plants Conservation, Traditional knowledge and its application to staffs from Heavenly Fuel Pvt. Ltd., Chennai and GRACE Foundation, Chennai was held at FRLHT-TDU, Bengaluru. The programme was organized by ENVIS Resource Partner on Medicinal Plants to create awareness on medicinal plants to traditional knowledge, trade, conservation and its application useful in natural products development. 5 December 2017: Trainees from IIHR, Bengaluru visited FRLHT-TDU, Bengaluru on 5th December 2017 to learn about sustainable use and conservation of medicinal plants. Here they visited various departments and were oriented on conservation research at FRLHT-TDU. The collection of medicinal plants and raw drugs for identification at FRLH Herbarium, research on traditional knowledge, sustainable collection practices, training for local communities, and conservation through assessments were explained. As part of conservation knowledge dissemination they were also oriented on ENVIS websites and mobile apps for IUCN red listed medicinal plant species by Ms. Soumyashree N., Senior Research Fellow, ENVIS Resource Partner on Medicinal Plants.

4 December 2017: Deputy Range Forest Officer Trainees from Forestry Training College, Mysore visited FRLHT-TDU, Bengaluru on 4th December 2017. They visited various departments and learnt about the activities conducted on sustainable harvesting, conservation practices and research activities on traditional knowledge. During this visit they were also oriented on ENVIS websites on Medicinal Plants and mobile applications on medicinal plants identification and conservation by Ms. Soumyashree N., Senior Research Fellow, ENVIS Resource Partner on Medicinal Plants. The session would enable them during their service for identifying forest resources with economic value and conservation activities for sustainable future.

9 November 2017: Ms. Suma T. S., ENVIS Coordinator, presented on GSDP module on Nursery training and Sustainable harvest concepts to ENVIS Coordinators, Directors from various ENVIS Resource partners and State Hubs under the chair of Dr. Anandi Subramanian on 9th November 2017, at New Delhi.
7 November 2017: Students of 2nd and 3rd standards from Sri Sri Ravishankar Vidya Mandir, visited FRLHT-TDU Ethnomedicinal garden on 7th November 2017. Simple home remedy uses for common ailments such as fever, cough, wounds so on were explained. Propagation of plants by seeds, leaves, stem and concepts of pollination and seed dispersal mechanisms were also explained.

13-14 October 2017: Recent advancements in DNA sequencing have made enormous contributions to understanding the biology of life forms. Reduced cost and increased speed of DNA sequencing have led to rapid growth of genomics. Functional significance of genomic elements (genes, RNA, proteins, small molecules and phenotype) are still being unravelled in each organism. India being a country having the richest biodiversity hotspots in the world, there is huge scope to decode genomes, understand and harness the biodiversity heritage through functional genomics. Transdisciplinary genomics has made phenomenal discoveries in the biological sciences since last decade. To foster transdisciplinary dialogues in functional genomics, TDU is organizing a two day &ldpos;National Symposium on Future of Functional Genomics&rdpos; by networking with scientists across India.

21-24 September 2017: Students Conference on Conservation Science was held at IISc, Bengaluru from 21st to 24th September 2017. The conference facilitates interaction on research and biodiversity conservation practices with researchers and students. The research on biodiversity conservation were presented through talks by technical experts, student talks and poster presentations. Workshops for students were organized to orient on different conservation avenues, methodology and incorporating them in conservation studies.

16 March 2017: Visit to Gujarat Medicinal Plant Board and Medicinal Plant Garden was undertaken by Ms. Suma T. S., ENVIS Coordinator and Ms. Soumyashree N., Research Fellow, ENVIS Centre on Medicinal Plants, FRLHT-TDU, Bengaluru on 16th March 2017 to learn about activities on Medicinal Plants conservation. Shri I. M. Quraishi, Deputy Secretary AYUSH, GoI and his team were met and visited Medicinal Plants Garden at Gandhinagar established in 1978 by Gujarat State Forest Department now managed by GMPB (1982). During this interaction activities of FRLHT-TDU, was briefed along with an invitation for their team to visit FRLHT-TDU.
