Amruth
(Magazine)
'Amruth'
literally means 'elixir of life'. It is also a Sanskrit synonym for Tinospora
cordifolia, a wonder plant known for its rejuvenating properties.
Amruth
is a magazine that seeks to address contemporary health care needs using traditional
methods of healing. It seeks to tap India's rich native medical heritage - this
is in consonance with the current global interest in alternative and complementary
medicine. Articles in Amruth typically profile the indigenous systems (particularly
Ayurveda, and diverse rural practices) as they attempt to help patients battle
their ailments in today's stressful work environment. Even allopathic doctors
have acknowledged the important role that these alternative systems play - especially
in areas like diabetes, peptic ulcers, reproductive health including infertility
and contraceptives, mental health, preventive cardiology, hypertension and obesity.
Amruth thus hopes to play a pivotal rule in bringing back the wisdom of the
ancients into modern life. Amruth also occasionally addresses the issues relating
to the conservation of these medicinal plants -for without these resources there
would be no heritage.
