Indira
Balachandran and Sivarajan sent a specimen of so called A. beddomei that are cultivated in Kottakal Arya Vaidyasala to
Kew for identification, which was confirmed as A.vasica.
J.L.Ellis has synonymy Justicia
gingiana under Adhatoda beddomei.
K.Ravikumar opines that Justicia
gingiana is a scrub jungle taxon and taxonomically quite distinct from A. beddomei. According to N.Mohanan it is not
found in Agasthiarmalai. Moose (1970) stated that the Ashtavaidyas of Kerala
found that A.vasica did not have
the same potency of A. beddomei.
A.E.Shanawaz Khan refuted that Moose’s information as inauthentic. Detailed
taxonomical, ecological, genetic and chemical investigations are needed to
solve this identity dispute (K.Ravikumar). |
